Old Red Pickup Truck Christmas Decor Finds

November 10, 2020 by Laura Tucker 2 Comments

2020 Update: This post from a few years back has really gained popularity since it’s original publish date in 2016. This week I’ve done a little revamping and revising and collected a whole new roundup of Old Red Pickup Truck Christmas Decor Finds that you’re sure to love!

Have you been strolling down the holiday decor aisle at the stores yet? My favorite store started rolling out the Christmas stuff back in August! I thought they had lost their minds a little bit, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t love walking down each aisle and daydreaming about all of the many ways I’ll be decorating our brand new home for the holidays this year!

How to Create a Winter White Harvest Tablescape

October 25, 2019 by Laura Tucker Leave a Comment

As we’re winding up the final months of 2019, I can’t help but think about how we’re in the home stretch of wrapping up an entire decade. So much personal growth has happened in the last 10 years, including marrying my soulmate, starting a family and building our home. As I’m making preparations to celebrate the upcoming holidays, I’ve been feeling pretty sentimental about all of the good memories that I’ll be sharing with my family when they gather around my table for Thanksgiving this year.

Down South House & Home Collection

August 6, 2019 by Laura Tucker Leave a Comment

I received products from Down South House in exchange for my honest review. All opinions expressed are 100% my own. I only promote what I truly love!

Have you ever caught a glimpse of something in a store that you kept circling back around to? Perhaps that particular item had a charm about it that spoke to you in a different way than any tangible good had ever spoken to you before, or maybe it brought out a fun layer to your personality that made you smile from ear to ear, and you just couldn’t help but take it home with you and put it on display for all to see. Several months ago when I first laid eyes on the wares from Down South House & Home, these same feelings filled my mind as I fell more and more in love with their collection of towels and home goods they shared every day on social media.

Down South House

There was just something about them that made me feel understood. They made me feel happy inside. Perhaps it is their simple, clean and traditional southern aesthetic that pairs perfectly with my own style that made the connection I had with the brand feel so strong. When I selected the name for this blog years ago, I knew I wanted it to touch on the simplicity of the southern culture.

Food is a great way to share aspects of our heritage and culture, but I wanted it to be more than that. Even though we live in a very instant world, we know that things haven’t always been that way. If we don’t slow down and reflect and reminisce, we’re apt to miss some really beautiful things around us. There’s a lot you can learn from the simplicity of southern culture, and that’s something I really love to hold on to. Down South House & Home gets that, and they harness it so beautifully in their hand printed gifts that they make in their very own barn in the heart of Georgia.

Down South House

I love to spend time in my kitchen. I feel a beautiful sense of escape when I’m able to have uninterrupted time to make and create classic southern dishes with my own personal twist. I don’t love the dishes piling up in the sink afterward, of course, but that’s neither here nor there. More than I love cooking, though, I love sharing it with the people I love. It’s always been important to me to make my kitchen and my home feel inviting to people. If someone felt uncomfortable or unwelcome in my home, it would feel like a punch in the gut to me . My hospitality vein runs straight to my heart, and I want all who enter to know there there is a place for them here.

Down South House

Down South House & Home has such a fun variety of kitchen towels that are overflowing with simple southern charm. Each saying that is imprinted on the towels is something that I grew up saying, and they allow me to connect directly to an aspect of my southern heritage that sets my soul on fire. These towels hanging on display in my kitchen bring me so much happiness, and they’re a testament of my personality that I love to display for all who enter to see. The bold black lettering on the simple white flour sack towels fits my style so well, and these towels were made to make memories with. That’s truly something special.

Down South House

Aside from making kitchen towels, Down South House & Home steps right into the heart of the family with their t-shirts made for all ages and sizes. Though I don’t do it as often as I would like to, I love those moments when I get to dress my daughters in matching outfits. There’s a million and one ways to dress up a white t-shirt, but there’s only one way to raise your babies – and that’s to raise them right.

Down South House

“Raised Right” is such a southern thing to say, and I absolutely love it. My babies are my pride and joy, and as they grow and mature into beautiful young women, it is my prayer that they will be overflowing with abundant evidence that they were truly raised right.

Down South House

But, of course, as I parent I am not exempt from those moments when my babies choose to act like that don’t have an ounce of raising in their entire little bodies. One day I’ll be able to look back and laugh at those struggle-filled moments, but for now I get to dress them with a very visible disclaimer written on their shirts when we go out in public stating that Mama did, in fact, try her best. These “Mama Tried” shirts have gotten a laugh out of everyone who has seen them, and they certainly bring a smile to me even in those exhausting parenting moments. I think Merle Haggard would get a good chuckle in over these tees, too!

Down South House

I’ve already put in a word with Santa this year about their “We Can’t Have Nice Things” tea towel. It 100% describes the season of life our family is in! I also love that the towels are available in “work horse” and “fancy pants” options. Work horse towels are meant to make memories with, and the fancy pants towels are for those who love to leave out their towels as display pieces. That’s so telling of a southern woman – we’ve all got the good towels and the grease stained towels! šŸ˜‰

If you’re looking to capture a bit of southern simplicity through a gift for yourself or someone you live, I can’t speak highly enough about Down South House & Home! Good people, good products, good messages. That’s exactly what this world needs a little more of!

Simple Friendsgiving Entertaining + DIY Burlap Utensil Holder

I remember the very first time I was introduced to the idea of “Friendsgiving.” During my senior year of college, a sorority sister of mine invited me to a Friendsgiving dinner she was hosting at her house. Without even being entirely sure of what it was, I told her to count me in! When I asked what all a Friendsgiving dinner entailed, she quickly explained that it was a time of fellowship with friends to celebrate the Thanksgiving season before we all parted ways during the break to head back home to visit with our families. Since then, I’ve seen many of those same people that attended keep the tradition alive by hosting a gatheringĀ  in their homes filled with good food, good fiends and good times!

My Top Thanksgiving Hostess Gift Pick: Precious Moments Bountiful Blessings Collection

November 11, 2018 by Laura Tucker Leave a Comment

I received product in exchange for my honest review. All opinions expressed are 100% my own. Affiliate links may be included throughout this post at no cost to you.

Growing up, my mother used to frequent a store in my hometown that sold a hodgepodge of collectibles and gifts. It was one of my very favorite stores to get to go to, as they had a section specifically for children at the back of the store filled with the most wonderful books, stuffed animals and toys that I could look at while my mother shopped around. Sometimes I would venture towards the front of the store where they had beautiful display cases filled with porcelain figurines that I loved to admire. Specifically, I had my eyes set on their collection of Precious Moments characters, and I always loved to scope out which piece of their iconic birthday train I’d be receiving next.

Our Farmhouse Office Reveal

June 12, 2018 by Laura Tucker 22 Comments

I received product from Kenroy Home in exchange for my honest review. All opinions expressed within this post are 100% my own.

Since completing our brand new home roughly 7 months ago, I’ve had numerous people reach out asking to see “reveals” of the different rooms in our home. I’ve always loved to decorate, and for years I’ve had big dreams about what the decor in my home would look like one day. I have Pinterest boardsĀ galore that highlight my love for farmhouse inspired decor, and some of the most popular posts here on Southern Made Simple are farmhouse decor related! However, since moving in I’ve discovered that decorating a home is a rather time consuming (and expensive) process – and since finding out that I was pregnant just a few days after moving in, that process has sort of been put on the back burner. That is, until today!

Quality & Affordable Farmhouse Signs from Charlie Dawn & Co

March 26, 2018 by Laura Tucker Leave a Comment

I received product from Charlie Dawn Co in exchange for my honest review. However, all opinions expressed are 100% my own. I only promote what I truly love!

Since moving into our brand new home back in late November, I’ve slowly but surely been collecting a few fun farmhouse pieces to fill our living spaces with that gorgeous rustic charm that I’ve absolutely fallen head over heels in love with. The moment I set out on my quest to find farmhouse decor to fit my style and my budget, it quickly became very evident to me that pretty things can cost a pretty penny, and it didn’t take long before I started to feel a little defeated in my quest to fill my house with all things farmhouse-chic. I mean, I just wanted it to look like Joanna Gaines is my bff and she popped over to help me spruce up the place…is that so much to ask?!

Valentine’s Day Pillow Covers to Fall in Love With!

January 5, 2018 by Laura Tucker 1 Comment

Affiliate links are included throughout this post at absolutely no cost to you.

Once the Christmas decor is taken down from the shelves in stores, heart shaped boxes of chocolate, stuffed animals and candy hearts immediately start taking their place in preparation for Valentine’s Day. In previous years I’ve never decorated much for Valentine’s Day, but it’s mostly because I’ve never found much Valentine-y decor that I actually liked. A few years ago I posted a roundup of a few of my favorite Valentine’s Day Farmhouse Decor finds that I scored on Amazon (my favorite place to shop) and this year I was really pleasantly surprised at their selection of pillow covers!

Even though I’ve always been a stickler for not decorating my home for Christmas until Thanksgiving dinner is good and digested, I know SO many folks out there are already making big plans for this holiday season, and I’d be lying if I said I haven’t perused the Christmas decor aisles at Hobby Lobby a time or two (or three) to help me start getting into the spirit and to put a little jingle in my step!

Affiliate links are included throughout this post at absolutely no cost to you.Ā Thanksgiving Pillow Covers appeared here first on Southern Made Simple

With the holidays quickly approaching, I’ve been getting more and more anxious to get into our brand new house. Construction is so close to being completed, and we’re expected to be able to move in before Thanksgiving (which is perfect, because my whole family will be coming over for Thanksgiving dinner!)

So in addition to thinking about what our menu will look like, I’ve also been planning out the decor of my home. Y’all know my love of throw pillows, so I just had to do a little searching for some super cute Thanksgiving pillow covers to have on display around the house when my family comes in!
