Venison Recipes

Venison Sausage Balls

December 27, 2020 by Laura Tucker 1 Comment

We’re currently in the heart of deer season here in south Alabama, and my husband has been in the woods quite a bit lately trying to make sure our freezer is stocked with venison to last us a full year until next year’s deer season begins. These venison sausage balls are a quick, simple, no-fuss and no-fail appetizer that I love to whip up any ol’ time, but especially on game days when college football is on the big screen.

Venison Sausage Balls

These sausage balls only call for a handful of ingredients, and they take about 15 minutes to cook all the way through in the oven. My husband loves to eat them by themselves, but I personally love to dip them in a little bit of pepper jelly or drizzle a smidge of syrup over them to give them a bite of sweetness. If I’m lucky and there’s any leftovers the next morning, I love to pop them in the microwave and have them for breakfast!

Venison Sausage Balls

While this recipe calls for ground venison sausage, you can easily adapt this recipe to use pork sausage. If you want to spice things up a tad, spring for a spicy sausage blend instead of using mild! I use a combination of shredded cheddar and shredded mozzarella in the mixture because I believe the mozzarella adds in a little extra moisture to keep them from feeling dry. You can experiment with different cheeses if you so choose, and even add in a little creole or cayenne pepper to give them so extra flavor!

Venison Sausage Balls

To make sure my sausage balls are even in size so they will all cook evenly, I love to use a click-release cookie scoop and plop them right on top of the baking sheet without getting my hands dirty. If you happen to have any leftovers, just store them in an airtight container in the fridge. They’ll keep for 4-5 days, but they’ve certainly never lasted that long in my household!

Here’s a free printable copy of the recipe if you’d like to give it a try!

Oh, Deer! Grilled Venison Burgers

August 18, 2018 by Laura Tucker 1 Comment

We’re just a few months away from deer season opening up in the state of Alabama, so I thought now would be a great time to start sharing some of my family’s favorite venison recipes with you all! I consider myself pretty darn lucky to have married into a family with a field-to-table philosophy. My husband, mother-in-law and father-in-law are all skilled hunters who not only hunt as a means of providing for our family, but also process all of the meat themselves!

I’ve shared all about how we process our deer before (you can read all about that and the products we recommend here,) and I’ve also shared several of our favorite venison recipes over the years, too. Just search “venison” in the search bar over on the right hand side of the screen (or down at the very bottom if you’re using a mobile device) to find them!

Honey Ginger Venison and Jasmine Rice Bowls

January 20, 2018 by Laura Tucker Leave a Comment

This post was sponsored by NAKANO® Rice Vinegars as part of an Influencer Activation for Influence Central and all opinions expressed in my post are my own.

Walking into the new year, I was a little bit disappointed in myself for not making as many game-changing resolutions to hold on to for 2018. I’m typically one to make out my goals and resolutions well in advance and have them on display in my office for me to look at every day. However, seeing as how I kept my head in a toilet nearly all of the month of December (morning sickness is for the birds, y’all) I feel like I was doing pretty good to jot down just a few simple and out of the box goals I wanted to move towards in 2018.

If you're looking to make a few new changes this year, consider adding leaner meats to your diet, such as delicious venison featured in this recipe for Honey Ginger Venison and Jasmine Rice Bowls! It's a simple and scrumptious way to pack in extra flavor to your meal without having a heavy fat content! #NAKANONewYear #NewYearSwaps #IC #ad…

Venison and Sausage Chili

January 7, 2017 by Laura Tucker Leave a Comment

I’m just gonna be real with y’all for just a minute here. I have no idea how to handle cold weather. I don’t like it. My body does not adapt. I cannot compute. My bones lock up and my mind cannot even process how to handle snow. That may sound insane (and a little petty) to many of you that are from an area where snow is pretty common, but in my neck of the woods snow is super rare. In fact, it seems like the whole state of Alabama just shuts down when the weather forecast even hints at the possibility of snow.

Don’t get me wrong, though. I do like cooler weather. I don’t mind breaking out a light jacket to go outside and I definitely enjoy it not being humid outside, but the frigid coldness that we’ve experienced this weekend is pretty close to miserable to me. The only plus side to cold weather in my opinion is getting to curl up on the couch with a blanket and a big bowl of warm chili or soup. Food is definitely one of my primary love languages, and my Venison Sausage Chili speaks directly to my heart and warms it right up!

Venison and Sausage Chili is the perfect dish to warm you up on a cold winter night. It's so easy to make, and it's packed with delicious flavor!…

I received a complimentary product as a BzzAgent in exchange for my review. All opinions expressed are completely my own. I only share what I really love! #DollopOfDaisy #GotitFree

It’s no secret that I love a good taco-inspired recipe. Mexican night happens almost on a weekly basis in my household, and I’m always looking for a fun new way to add a twist to the dishes that I prepare. Cooking with venison is an art that I’ve been learning slowly over the past few years. It’s absolutely delicious in these Venison Taco Bites, and they’re a huge hit with the hubs!
