How are those New Year’s resolutions holding out for you now that we’re 5 months into 2019? I’ll be honest, I’ve been slacking a little on one or two of mine, but there’s one resolution that I haven’t been willing to budge on at all this year, and I think it’ll be a resolution that sticks around long after 2019 is over with! Quality time is my primary love language, and since becoming a mother of 2, the quality time with my husband has been becoming harder to come by. One of my top goals this year was to change that, and one simple way we’re doing that is having at least one scheduled date night each month!
We’re very fortunate to live right down the road from my husband’s parents. His mother is always so gracious to watch our two little girls while we spend some time together. Some date nights we choose to “go out” for the evening, but some days the thought of driving an hour into town seems a little daunting. On the days we choose to have our quality time at home, I try to find a fun way to bring the party to us right in our own living room!
My husband and I have a deep love connection to pizza. That may sound silly, but it’s true! We both worked at a pizza joint when we were in college, and we know exactly what it takes to make a good pizza. During our “date night in” last week, I decorated our bar cart at home and loaded it with drinks, sides and our favorite pizza: Freschetta Naturally Rising Supreme Pizza from Publix!

Because I stay at home with the girls all day, sometimes it feels like the walls around me start caving in a little bit. That’s why it’s important to me to make sure that our date nights at home feel (and taste) even better than a night out on the town! I’ve always been a veggie lover when it comes to pizza, so we started out our date night with Freschetta Naturally Rising Crust Supreme. The veggies were crisp, the meat was excellent and the crust had the perfect consistency. Freschetta Naturally Rising Crust Pizza is made with no chemical leaveners, so the dough rises using real yeast. It’s crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and is good to the very last bite!
I love to stock up on Freschetta pizza located in the frozen food aisle when shopping at Publix. During my last shopping trip, I had our date night on the brain and also picked up a few other sides and surprises that pair perfectly with pizza.
While many would pair a wine with their date night, my husband and I prefer to indulge in one of our favorite specialty soft drinks that we use to drink a lot when we were dating. It’s a little hard to come by these days, so including it in our date night was an extra special touch. I decorated our bar cart using a red-checkered theme because it makes me think of dining at a casual little bistro in Italy. To match the theme, I tied a cute little checkered basket liner around each bottle of soda with twine.
I also wrapped our silverware with checkered napkins and included a few fun paper straws for us to sip our soda with. While these steps certainly aren’t necessary, my husband really appreciated all of the personal little touches I added in!
And no date night is complete without indulging in a little dessert! I picked up a few cupcakes from the bakery and added a fun little mustache topper to match the theme. The key to planning a date night in is to make it feel as if you’ve stepped away from your home for a moment and walked into a place that is fresh and new to you. By incorporating a few of these details and serving up our favorite Freschetta pizzas, our date night at home felt and tasted even better than a date night in town!
