How I’m Working Smarter (and Not Harder) as a Work at Home Parent

When I had my daughter 2 1/2 years ago, I decided to leave my full time job and stay home with her. I had always dreamed of being able to be at home with my children during their early years, and I knew if I had the opportunity to leave the workforce then, I needed to take the leap and do it. Parenthood opens your eyes to so many things that you never know about yourself. I learned very quickly that Mom-in’ ain’t easy, and that I was actually way more busy staying at home with her than I was working full time! I uncovered strengths I never knew I had, and dreams for myself and my children began to quickly unfold. Just 6 months into being a stay-at-home mom, I started my own business and began the transition from stay-at-home mom to work-at-home mom.

As an entrepreneur, it can be really hard ensuring that the return you get for your time and efforts is worth all of the sacrifices that you make. It didn’t take long to realize that in order for my business to be successful, I’d have to put in (and still put in) more hustle and grit than I ever expected.

The phrase, “dreams don’t work unless you do” always rings loudly in my ear as I wake up at 4:00 each morning to start my work before my little one wakes up. It’s certainly not easy juggling work and being everything my vivacious 2 year old needs me to be 7 days a week, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world! I do a ton of multitasking when it comes to my work. Through this feature, I am able to go from editing a document in my office to creating things such as grocery lists, personal notes and reminders, and so much more! Thanks to Windows Ink and 3D, I can draw, create and edit 3D images in photos and can easily write and erase just like I’m writing on a notepad. You should have SEEN how many sticky notes and lists I had all over my desk before this new processor entered my life! I’m also able to take advantage of Cortana Voice Command, which instantly pulls up anything I need (weather report, reminders, recipes, etc.) at the sound of my voice. I can’t even explain how awesome it is to have this feature built in, and I’m not even sure how I could have ever possibly kept my sanity all these years without it!

Living in a very rural part of Alabama, it’s no simple task to go to the store. The closest grocery store to me is a 30+ minute drive, and I have to drive 45+ minutes to go shopping for just about everything else! Needless to say, I do at least 90% of my shopping these days online (even some of my grocery shopping!) Talk about some much needed peace of mind!
