Let me share a little something with you guys. Just a tiny little nugget about myself that you may be surprised to know if you’ve never met me in person:
I’m pretty darn short.
Like, really short. All you ladies that are 5’3″ or 5’4″ may think you’re short, but count your blessings that you’ve at least made it to the 5+ feet tall club, because I’m too short to even be a member of it!
I stand at just 4’11” tall, and before you say. “Oh, bless her heart” and go feeling sorry for me, just know that I’m proud as punch to be petite. Good things come in small packages, ya know! However, being WELL below the average height definitely comes with its share of struggles and disadvantages.
For instance, shopping is just plain difficult. Stuff usually does not fit well, and I often leave stores feeling certain that they just don’t make clothing to fit me. I mean, of course they make clothing to fit people my height, but I’m not trying to shop in the children’s department, y’all! 😉
I’ve always felt limited in the things I could wear because of my short stature. I’ve always had to have my pants, dresses and skirts tailored. I’ve spent a small fortune on having my clothing chopped off at the bottom because I don’t know how/don’t trust myself enough to sew a hem properly.
Aside from this whole “I’m too short for this” conundrum that I’ve *gracefully* dealt with my entire life, I’ve been dealing with another wardrobe/fashion issue for the past few years. I’m 26 years old, a professional, and a mother. I know that my butt needs to be shopping in the women’s department, but I still tend to gravitate towards the junior’s section.
Here’s why: The dresses fit me better. Here’s the problem: I’m not a “junior” anymore. I’m just downright too old for most of those clothes, and I’d rather not wear graphic prints with glitter cats and emojis all over the place. (Have you been to the junior’s section lately? Emojis everywhere, I tell ya!) Unfortunately, dresses from the women’s section often hit me mid-calf on the leg, and it is absolutely dreadful. If a dress is short, it needs to be right at my knee. It’s so rare to find a dress that hits you in the right spot on the leg when you’re my height. And don’t even get me started on maxi dresses! Long dresses have never been an option for me, no matter what department I find it in. They’re all WAY. TOO. LONG.
That is – until now!
For all of you petite pretties out there – feast your eyes on your new BFF:
Scotch™ Essentials Adjustable Hem Tape and Permanent Bond Tape available at Target!
Gone are the days that I need to take my clothing to the tailor to be hemmed. Without ever breaking out a needle or thread, I can hem my clothing within a matter of minutes! And the best part? I don’t have to worry about cutting or ruining the fabric. When I saw these glorious little wardrobe-savers at my local Target, I literally squealed with joy at the thought that I might be able to wear a maxi dress for the first time in my life, and I was even more thrilled by the notion that I’d never have to worry about another hem line hitting me at the dreaded mid-calf! Hallelujah!
So without any hesitation at all, I walked my happy tail over the the dresses in the women’s section of one of my favorite stores and picked out several long dresses – something I’ve never actually gotten to do in my life! The Scotch™ Essentials Permanent Hem Bonding Strips were just what I needed to be able to pull off my new maxi dresses.
As soon as I got home and washed the dresses, I broke out the ruler and hem tape and gave my dresses a whole new life! It took less than 10 minutes total to do. No extra money spent at the tailor’s, and no waiting time for someone else to do it for me. It was AWESOME!
The Scotch™ Essentials Adjustable Hem Tape is perfect for the occasions that I borrow dresses from my friends, or for those instances that I need a temporary hem for a one time look. I really wish I had a product like this during my college sorority years! Everyone would always borrow clothing from each other when we lived in the sorority house, but I never got to borrow much from others because things were always too long for me. I’m sure they wouldn’t have been thrilled by me borrowing and cutting the fabrics to fit me (and rightfully so!) Had I had the Scotch™ Essentials Adjustable Hem Tape, I could’ve extended my wardrobe immensely!
Since “hemming” my new maxi dresses, I feel like a brand new woman! I’m so thrilled to be able to wear a long dress that actually fits me. My husband and I have been trying to tone up our bodies a little bit this summer and drop a few pounds. I’ve toned my body a little bit since having my daughter 14 months ago, and I’m finally excited to rock my summer wardrobe with confidence fashion-wise and body-wise!
The Scotch™ Essentials items are available at Target and are located near the closet essentials. In my store they were displayed right by the sewing machines, so keep your eyes open next time you’re there!
I was so glad I made it to Target to purchase these items when I did, because when I got there there was only one package of adjustable hem tape left! It looks like others have caught on to how valuable these little strips of adhesive awesomeness really are! While I was browsing the other fabulous Scotch™ Essentials items, I noticed the Scotch™ Essentials White Mark Eraser. As soon as I read that it removes deodorant stains with ease, it flew into my cart faster than a speeding bullet!
Goodness gracious, y’all. I can’t tell you how many times in my life I’ve gotten deodorant marks on my outfits while I’m trying to get ready. It seems like it always happens on the days where I spend too long trying to find something to wear, and then I finally find the perfect outfit.. only to discover that I got white marks all over it in the process. This mama ain’t got time for those kinds of shenanigans anymore, and now I don’t have to worry about that sort of thing at all! Adding this secret weapon to my emergency wardrobe reservoir is going to save me a lot of headache (and laundry) in the future, and I am PUMPED about it!
If you’re on the petite side like me and are tired of taking your clothing to a tailor, give the Scotch™ Essentials products a try! They’re effective, money saving, and all around awesome. Plus, you can even use the strips on more things than just clothing. There’s tons of room to get creative!
