For just a moment, you’ve stepped into another place where time moves a little slower. The air is a little warmer and smells a little sweeter. People know you by name and your worries are few. Some call this place the South, but I love to call it home.
Why don’t you take a load off and sit a spell while you’re here? I’ll pour you some sweet tea.
They say there’s no place on Earth like a cozy front porch. Whether you’re sitting alone or sitting with others, the conversation is always good. It’s a perfect place to reflect, relax, ponder and grow.
Southern Made Simple is my little slice of pie — a place to share southern food, family life, and the small ways we keep things simple at home. Most of what’s here is recipes our family actually cooks: holiday sides, weeknight comfort food, and the occasional sweet treat that disappears before it cools.
I’m Laura. I married the love of my life in 2012, and together we’re raising our three girls — Taralynn, Laken, and Fallon — down a quiet red dirt road in rural Alabama. (To give you an idea of how rural we’re talking, there are only a handful of traffic lights in the entire county, and the closest one to our house is still a solid drive.) Our community is made of some of the nicest people in the world, and we are so blessed to call this place home.
When I’m not wrangling kids or stirring something on the stove, you might find me planning the next holiday menu, digging into a craft project, or flipping through Food Network for inspiration. I love learning new things and sharing them with others.
If you want something handmade from our family shop, peek at South Made Simple on Etsy — mostly 3D-printed charms and tags we design at home. The recipes stay right here on the blog.
Now that you’ve made yourself at home, why don’t you just stay a while? Let’s be friends.
