We’re already a few weeks into summer here in my neck of the woods, and my daughter and I are already kicking things off to a great start! We’ve filled almost every day of the week in our calendar with a fun activity for us to do together to get us out of the house and enjoying the world around us. Earlier this week we attended a fun little animal show in our community with lots of interesting and exotic animals. I just knew my toddler would be into it, because she’s an animal lover through and through!
But it wasn’t long after we arrived that she started getting a little restless. The animal show required children to stay seated and remain relatively calm once the animals were brought out so as to not startle them. Since the words “stay seated” and “remain calm” do not fit into my daughter’s vocabulary, she quickly began fidgeting and squirming and whining to leave. I knew she loved the animals, but what she really wanted to do was hit the ground running and play.
We stayed about halfway through the animal show before we quietly dipped out and loaded up in the car to head to a nearby playground so she could get some of that energy out that she had been bottling up. And sure enough, the moment we pulled up at the playground she squealed with joy and ran ahead of me to go check out the playground equipment.
